A gondola for physiological research in the atmosphere.

چکیده
F OR M A N Y years atmospheric research has been carried out using the balloon as a vehicle. Although animals, mainly humans, flew on the earlier flights, altitudes attained were not sufficient for a determination of any harmful physiological effects other than the classical ones due to lowered temperatures. Indeed, the only major effects noted o n animals sent aloft up to the past few years, were those due to decreased temperature, pressure and oxygen content of the atmosphere. With the advent of high altitude aircraft there has been a renewed interest in a determination of the effects of atmospheric phenomena at very great altitudes on the human physiology. A special interest in the effects of natural cosmic radiation has been generated by recent information regarding the intense energies of such radiation coupled with new knowledge of the effects of radiation on the cellts of the body. Although a deduction of possible high altitude effects can be made by laboratory studies of radiation and radiation effect, a final confirmation of results obtained by such a method can only be made by exposing animals to high altitude radiation con-

Stomatal Density as a Selection Criterion for Developing Tea Varieties with High Physiological Efficiency
Stomata, the small opening in leaf connecting plant with atmosphere, play pivotal roles in global water and carbon cycles. Stomata regulate the two key important physiological functions viz. photosynthesis and transpiration and thus are crucial for performance of crop species in changing climatic conditions. Although environmental factors influence the density and size of stomata, the genetic c...
متن کاملHeight Estimation of Gondola-typed Facade Robot
Purpose We researched an automated and robotic facade maintenance robot. This robot can protect people against safety hazards, and save labour cost for building facade maintenance. Our platform is gondola type. Accurate and robust height estimation is necessary for automation. We propose a methodology for height estimation. Method Even though there are many sensor systems for height estimation,...
متن کاملEffects of shelf architecture and parasitoid release height on biological control of Plodia interpunctella (Lepidoptera: Pyralidae) eggs by Trichogramma deion (Hymenoptera: Trichogrammatidae).
The effects of shelving type, packaging, and release height on success of Trichogramma deion Pinto & Oatman (Hymenoptera: Trichogrammatidae) parasitizing Plodia interpunctella (Hübner) (Lepidoptera: Pyralidae) eggs was studied under laboratory conditions. In trials on multipletiered gondola-type or open shelving units, with or without packaging, foraging success was evaluated by comparing paras...
متن کاملSpatial disorientation in gondola centrifuges predicted by the form of motion as a whole in 3-D.
INTRODUCTION During a coordinated turn, subjects can misperceive tilts. Subjects accelerating in tilting-gondola centrifuges without external visual reference underestimate the roll angle, and underestimate more when backward-facing than when forward-facing. In addition, during centrifuge deceleration, the perception of pitch can include tumble while paradoxically maintaining a fixed perceived ...
متن کاملTilted Window Detection for Gondola- Typed Facade Robot
Working on building façade is dangerous. Many accidents have occurred, and many workers have lost their lives. We have researched to apply robot systems to prevent these accidents. In this paper, we purposed an algorithm for sensor system of a gondola-typed building façade maintenance robot. The robot system moves on the building façade autonomously, or by remote control. Therefore, window area...
